This Week…11/5 -11/9

What a busy week last week was!  I hope this week finds every feeling well!  This week, we’ll be learning the following:

Math  – Students will continue to work on strategies for multi-digit multiplication with an emphasis on integrating word problems. Check out these videos!

Distributive Property

Reading – Students will work on the standard below.  Students may view the video to help understand what is expected of them.

Explain how an author uses reasons and evidence to support particular points in a text.

Writing – Students will learn about the format and style of opinion pieces.

Social Studies – Students will learn about need for the writing of the U.S. Constitution, the first ten amendments (the Bills of Rights) and the structure of the U.S. Government (the branches of government).

Reminders/Important Dates:

Don’t forget that there are only a few days left to donate to your child’s run/walk at the Tiger Trot.  Please remember to register and have your child ask friends and family!  Go to funrun.com to get setup or check your progress!

Coming up this week…& Important Dates (scroll down)

Thank you parents for helping us to have a successful conference week!  If you were unable to meet, we will send your child’s report card and other information with them on Monday.

Here are the things that we’re teaching and learning this week:

Math:  Students will continue to learn how to find all factor pairs for a given number.  Students will also find the multiples of given numbers.  See the video below for an explanation of each.

 

Writing: will continue to work on the informational writing pieces on their animal of choice.  Student will be publishing by the end of the week.

Reading:  Student will work on determining the differences between firsthand and secondhand accounts.  Students will use these documents to help answers text-based questions.

Social Studies:  Students will continue to learn about the Articles of Confederation and the Constitution. See video(s) below.

Attendance Counts

As we jump into the second quarter, beginning on Thursday, October 11th, the Teasley Attendance Team wants to reward those students who come to school on time every day. Students who have perfect attendance at the end of the second 9 weeks, ending on Friday, December 21st, will receive a free dress down day, a surprise treat, and 1 entry into the end of the year drawing for a BRAND NEW BIKE! Furthermore, those students who have perfect attendance for the entire school year will have the opportunity to participate in a end of year celebration during the last week of school as well as FOUR entries into the drawing for the bike! Thank you so much for your support with getting your student to school on time every day.

Parents/Guardians:

Conference week is quickly approaching (October 15th – 19th)! Please sign up for a time where you may  meet with us to receive your child’s first quarter report card and discuss his/her progress.  We ask that you ensure that your time is adhered to so that we will be able to start and finish on time.  This will allow you time to ask any questions or voice concerns.  Please sign up for one day and time slot. Times go quickly, so please sign up as soon as you are able.

When signing up, please type your child’s FIRST NAME in the comments section.  If you have specific items that you would like to discuss, please email either myself or Ms. Harris before your conference time.

*****Please note that school dismisses 2 hours earlier each day of this conference week.  Students are welcome to visit with parents/guardians during the conference.

Upcoming for the week of 10/1/2018

Before break, we did the following:

  • worked determining the perimeter of rectangles/squares using a formula
  • completed our research for our Wax Museum
  • practiced editing, and revising our writing pieces on our person of influence
  • discussed the battles of the American Revolution
  • finished our writing by publishing and submitting our work on Office 365
  • Please ask your child about his or her week and what we’ve learned!

This week, we will focus on the following:

How to calculate the perimeter of a rectangle using a formula

What are ecosystems and how do they change based on the flow of energy in them

How to make inferences using our background knowledge and textual information

 

How to write to paired texts to help us think and write critically

  • October 10th is the end of the quarter.  Please check your child’s grades in ParentVue.
  • Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held the week of October 15th -19th.  Please look for a Sign-up Genius on Monday, October 1st to find a time that works for you.
  • Please be sure to check your child’s Friday folder each week and return only the items that need to be returned.

Meet Ms. Harris

Greetings,

My name is Ms. Tope’ Harris and I am so excited to join the Teasley Tigers. It is my hope that this will be an awesome and fantastic school year! I am highly qualified in Special Education General Curriculum (P-12) and all core content subjects (P-8). I am English to Speakers of Other Languages and Gifted endorsed and I also have an Educational Leadership Certification.

This is my 12th year in education. I began my educational journey at Narvie J. Harris Theme School, teaching Kindergarten for a year. I then moved on to Briar Vista Elementary School where I taught Montessori Pre-K/Kindergarten for 4 years. Next I transitioned to Eldridge L. Miller Elementary School, where I taught Moderate Intellectually Disabled students for 2 years. I ended my career in DeKalb County School District at Avondale Elementary where I taught Interrelated Special Education for 3 years and served as the Special Education Lead Teacher for 1 year.

It is my absolute pleasure to be your child’s teacher! I look forward to preparing your child for fifth grade and making this school year as successful as possible! Happening this week 9/17/18

We have a permanent teacher joining us tomorrow, Monday, September 17th!  I am so excited.  Please join me in welcoming Ms. Tope Harris to Teasley Elementary!  

I hope you’ve had a great weekend!  Fall Break is just around the corner!

Last week, we did the following:

  • worked on addition and subtraction of whole numbers using the standard algorithm
  • examined mentor sentences to imitate how great authors write (with a focus on hyphenated adjectives)
  • practice identifying the ways that authors build information text (text structure)
  • discussed the battles of the American Revolution
  • continued our research and started our writing about people that influenced change during the American Revolution
  • Please ask your child about his or her week and what we’ve learned!

This week, we will focus on the following:

How to calculate the perimeter of a rectangle using a formula

Finishing up on the battles and the end of the American Revolution

What are ecosystems and how do they change based on the flow of energy in them

How to edit and revise writing to create effective paragraphs

Work on our wax museum presentations
